Almost every customer in India reads WhatsApp, which makes it the most powerful channel for a local shop. It is also the easiest to misuse. Here's how to do it properly.
Personal app vs WhatsApp Business Platform
Forwarding offers from your personal or WhatsApp Business app to hundreds of contacts quickly gets reported and limited. Bulk messages should go through Meta's official WhatsApp Business Platform, which uses approved message templates and shows your verified business name.
The rules that matter
- Message people who know you. Customers who bought from you or agreed to hear from you — not purchased lists.
- Use approved templates for marketing messages; Meta reviews them before use.
- Let people stop. Honour “stop” requests immediately.
- Don't over-send. One or two offers a month per customer is plenty for most shops.
Messages that work
- “Your 4 stamps expire on Sunday — come in for your free coffee.”
- “New Diwali collection is in. Members get early access this weekend.”
- “It's been a month! Here's ₹100 off your next visit, valid till Friday.”
Timing
Late morning and early evening work best. Avoid late nights. Send festival messages 7–10 days before the festival.
Using GCO
With GCO broadcasts you choose your own customers (new, repeat or loyal) or GCO users near your shop, see the cost before sending, and pay per recipient in credits. Reward updates such as points credited or stamps added are sent automatically and free.
